The Town of Balranald, on the Surt highway where it crosses the Murrumbidgee River, is 553kms east of Adelaide, 643kms west of Canberra, 442kms north of Melbourne870kms west of Sydney, only 149kms south west of Mungo National Park and only 10kms west of Yanga Homestead, that will become a feature of new National Park that is being established at Yanga Station

BALRANALD TOWNSHIP
The town of Balranald is a thriving centre where the Sturt Highway crosses the Murrumbidgee River, with a diverse agricultural and pastoral base. Supplementing the traditional activities are viticulture and horticulture near the river and an increasing awareness of tourism.
BALRANALD SHIRE
Balranald Shire covers an area of approximately 21,400 square kilometres and Balranald is approximately 60 metres above sea level. The Shire includes Balranald, the township of Euston and the localities of Kyalite, Oxley, Penarie (Homebush), Hatfield and Clare. The Lachlan, Murrumbidgee, Murray and Wakool Rivers form the southern boundaries of the Shire and these are popular waters for fishermen. There are a number of permanent lakes within the Shire with the most notable being Lake Benanee near Euston. Other locations are periodically flooded. The average summer temperature is around 28 degrees centigrade without the humidity prevalent in coastal regions. Winters are usually mild with cool to cold nights and fine days.
