BES – The Best of Two Worlds biography

The long awaited biography of an outstanding Australian identity was launched on the 5th March 2016 at the iconic Yanga Homestead, Balranald.

The biography  Bes: The Best of Two Worlds is about the life of Besley ‘Bes’ Murray, an Aboriginal man brought up on a reserve at Balranald who became Overseer of the largest freehold property in the southern hemisphere, Yanga Station, and Bes has been described as the link and common thread between the past, the present and the future of European and Indigenous Australia.

His story is written in his voice and is illustrated with many photographs that capture the rich memories from his extraordinary life.

The story follows his years growing up on The Island reserve, and his time as a boxer, a jockey, a buckjump rider with the famous Thorpe McConville Wild Australia Show, a Respected Elder of the
Mildura Koori Court, an Australia Day Ambassador, and Australia Day Council Living Legend. He shares his philosophy on life and living together. He talks about his parents and grandparents, his brothers, his wife and children, and about good people who have been part of his journey.
